In keeping with January’s topic on years resolutions, we thought we would bring to you something which is inspired by the more typical type… Take a look at these gyms across the world which have been designed so beautifully, they will make any gym-sceptic change their mind!
Barry’s Bootcamp, Sydney
A top favourite amongst big names including the Beckham’s and Bieber’s, Barry’s Bootcamp offers nightclub sound systems and five-star facilities as standard. The red hued rooms add a sense of atmosphere and excitement – making you forget where you are (until the instructor begins at least).
Jungle Gym, Tulum
Stripping back to basics, this gym is all about the contextual experience. In the open air, with smooth white sand and turquoise waters as a backdrop, most visitors lift weights in their swimwear – as motivation, or to run into the water straight after the workout perhaps? – but unique attire aside, this one is for the bucket list.
Equinox, London and Los Angeles
If you hate being in the gym, and want to forget that you are, look no further… Pegged as one of the most luxurious gym memberships available, Equinox turn it up a notch with their interior design; disguising the notion of a gym into a place of magnificence and lustre.
These beautifully looking entrances are enough to pull anyone inside!
Sky Wellness, Serbia
Cantilevered 15m above the esplanade, this gym has been designed to complement the architectural and structural merits of the building. Walking inside, 390 back-lit panels of various sizes make up the ceiling to give the impression of being in a cloud, and a reflective resin floor adds to the effect of weightlessness. Expansive windows across two faces of the triangular building look out to the world below.
Nike at Coordination Asia, Beijing
Although technically no longer open, this pop-up gym by Nike is worth a mention. Architects transformed an art gallery into this immersive, yet temporary work out and retail space with little more than paint, statement lighting and props. This is an event we hope will be emulated elsewhere in the future.
