There are hundreds of Design Shows taking place across the globe every year. It is at these events where new designs have been revealed, that have shaped the design industry and beyond, and become household names. If you are looking for answers beyond current high street trends, on the market for innovative and novel designs, or looking for inspiration which pushes boundaries, then keep a close eye on these shows this year…

We have shortlisted one event per month for 2023, but do check Dezeen’s comprehensive guide here for the full agenda.

Quick note: We understand that only a lucky few have the opportunity for globetrotting to all the shows, so we have included the instagram pages of the events. This way, you can enjoy shows from Paris to Toronto from the comfort of your own home, and save all the content you love with a click of a button. Keep an eye on their stories for live streams of lectures, panel discussions and more.

January – Maison & Objet, Paris 19-23 Jan

The bi-annual event is this time focussing on the theme ‘Take Care’. “Refocus, regroup, indulge your senses, reconnect with your inner self, with others and with the environment. January 2023 will be all about taking care of each other, of our expertise and of our planet.”

MarchTime Exhibition, Melbourne until 29th April

If you are able to, try to catch this breathtaking exhibit before it closes in April. Flinder’s Street Station has been taken over by artist Rone where he has created scenes in abandoned rooms which tell a story of the building’s history and Melbourne’s industry in the late 20th century.

April – Salone del Mobile and Fuorisalone, Milan 17-23rd April

Needing no introduction, the most important furniture fair of the year is back after three years of COVID disruption. Anyone not able to attend in person, are glued to Fuorisalone’s instagram for the week to get front row seats to all the hottest installations.

May – Melbourne Design Week, Melbourne 18-28th May

Usually in March, the event has been moved back a couple months to showcase Australia’s design capital in the winter. In 2022, the design week hosted over 350 events and welcomed more than 55,000 attendees, making it Australia’s largest design event. Be prepared for a programme of exhibitions, installations, workshops, tours and launches.

June – Design Shanghai, Shanghai 8-11th June

It is no secret that architecture projects in China are some of the most daring and innovative in the world. This show sets the precedent for upcoming designs and introduces us to the designers to look out for.

Keep your eyes peeled for next month’s blog where we look at the design events for the following half of the year.
