Industrial style lighting is a firm favourite among many hospitality and residential projects because of its versatility. The neutral palette of blacks and grey often enables the fixtures to blend in with most design concepts, and the exposed bulb creates an ambient atmosphere which achieves the intention of feature lighting in a very simple and effective way.
However, what if your scheme requires statement and drama? What if, rather than blending in, you want your lighting fixtures to jump out? Well this article is for you. We have collated four pendant and lamp designs which offer fun ways to incorporate colour into your lighting scheme.
LAMPSHADE
Starting off simple, this option is perfect for the non-committing types out there who are constantly redesigning their space. Using a neutral base made out of natural materials is a solid start, as that makes the lamp largely universal to all design schemes. Then the lampshade can be as brightly coloured or patterned as your heart desires, and makes an easy (and cost effective) switch to a different style whenever you fancy.
COLOURED CORD
Slightly more permanent than a lampshade, is the plug in cord. Having a coloured cord is unique and unexpected, meaning it will demand attention despite being small in comparison to the lamp itself. This makes it the perfect route for anyone tiptoeing their way toward a colourful or maximalist interior, and wants to start off gently.
WHERE ART MEETS LIGHT
Taking the colour cord up a notch is this glass chain-link design by Trueling. Really taking centre stage, this exciting ‘chandelier’ creates an interesting juxtaposition by using glass to represent a chain (which ironically, tends to be associated with strength and protection). This interesting take on materiality and scale will doubtless be a conversation starter at any dinner party.
COLOURFUL GLOW
As mentioned above, ambient lighting is all about a warm and cosy glow… and this can be done in more ways than an exposed filament bulb. Using colour frosted glass (or the cheaper but less environmental alternative acrylic) makes the perfect recipe for a fixture which projects a comforting glow whilst also being a design feature and sculptural lamp.
