A/W trends: Aged and Classic

A rustic, aged wooden cabinet with a lamp, framed painting, and bowls sits atop it. Nearby, a classic round table and chair bask in the sunlight streaming through a window, illuminating the terracotta-tiled floor with an A/W trend palette.

If you subscribe to our monthly newsletter, you will know that we were recently lucky enough to be invited to a morning of design inspiration hosted by CC Interiors. Over a delicious morning tea, we learned that Aged and Classic looks are the latest trends taking the industry by storm, and furthermore, how these trends have influenced the latest collection at CC Interiors.

Taking a deeper dive into this design concept, this moodboard looks at our initial interpretation of the trend. Materials which show their age take the centre stage here – making wood, copper and brass top choices.

Starting with timber, a beautiful used wooden sideboard for example, looks nostalgically homely and comfortable. Worn down paint suggests a long life full of stories, and makes a chunky furniture piece feel softer round the edges. Alternatively, timber without any finish would also work nicely as the cracks and grain formations that surface from an aged piece, pay a beautiful homage to the past.

Moving on to copper, this is a great material choice for the ‘aged’ trend as it develops a gradual patina over time – meaning is slowly oxidises, beginning to transform to a turquoise blue. The great thing here is that, with a simple dash of white vinegar and some scrubbing, the patina is removable, meaning you have full control over how aged you would like it to seem.

And lastly, Brass changes less dramatically. It typically either has a polished finish, or an aged one, which errs in the direction of a matte look. The aged look (which can be seen on the small plant pot in the moodboard) creates an element of warmth and homeliness. It hints towards the many lives and uses of a previous time.

Incidentally, these three materials are all choices which featured heavily in the early 20th century, making them all ‘classic’ choices!

After the inspiring event at the CC Interiors showroom, we have shortlisted three of our favourite items from their new collection which suits the latest Aged and Classic trends perfectly:
